Joy, happiness, all that is good and wonderful

We went skiing! We took the babe and went skiing! A few times in fact now! I'm going to be honest I was a little nervous about taking baby girl but we got up there the first day and saw two others with little children with them in a pack and talked for a minute, which eased my nerves a little. We also took it really easy, we did side country skiing not really back country skiing, and didn't go too far. We felt it out and tried a little more the next time. Ah but it was fantastic! Not as long or as much powder as we normally do out there in the back country but we got out! And the first thoughts that came to me were how joyous and incredible it is to be outside, being alive!  How blessed we are for such opportunities. I love being outside! It calms me down from stress in my life, and believe me sometimes I am a huge worrier and stressor. But Nothing can calm me down and clear my mind and bring me back to me more or better than being outside. Especially when that outside is away from most civilization. I highly recommend the great vast beautiful outdoors. I think it could help us all in our own ways.

The picture is of my Love and my Little One on one of the first days getting up in the snowy mountains.  Aren't they adorable! Look at those little sun glasses!

Can I go skiing yet?

So this is my first winter as a mama.  I am so excited to share the wonders of snow with my little one. In fact, we were so excited that a week or so ago we drove up the canyon during one of the first storms in search of the magical white joy.  We had to get up there and get Little One in it also. She loved it and to put it mildly we were elated about being in the snow! I don't understand how people don't like it, but that's okay, we love it enough for them.

I missed most of winter, what there was of it, last season due to being pregnant. I can not wait to get out there this season! The crisp freshness of cold air and new snow! I love using my body to work for something so exhilarating. People ask me how I can enjoy climbing aka skinning up the mountain (aka skinning is when you put on uni-directional carpet to the bottom of your skis so you can ski uphill. P.S. the skins come off to go down hill.) especially when at least half of the time out is uphill. But I think climbing is half the fun. Plus it is so worth it being out surrounded by nature, so few people, if any, around, seeing wildlife in their home and even having them play with us. (Yes an adorable little ermine played with us once teasing us jumping in and out of the snow checking to see if we were still watching. It won a place in my heart. I love them) and gloriously finding knee deep powder and flying down it.

There are other parts I love also about backcountry skiing.  Getting away outside is a huge destresser for me, I stress a lot. If I'm feeling emotionally frustrated or drained, being outside rejuvenates me. Not to mention how nature can be such a spiritual place.

To summarize I miss you winter, I miss you nature, please can I go skiing?

about me

I love skiing, I admire bees, and I am a Mama. Most importantly I am a mama! It is the best decision and hardest and best lifestyle for me and I love it. I also love to ski. The outdoors speak to my soul and I am healthier and happier when I spend time outside. I mainly Telemark ski in the backcountry with my husband, thanks to my dad who taught me how. We look forward to skiing through the spring, summer, and autumn. And lastly, I admire honeybees. They work so hard and make something wonderful and without them, a tiny little insect smaller than a quarter, we would have a hard time surviving.
